Amelia and Abby McArdle finished in 9th and 10th places, respectively, in the first round of the Artisan Farms Young Riders Grand Prix Series. In a field of 56 starters, Amelia and Abby were two of only 14 clear first rounds.
The class took place on a blustery and cold Sunday morning during Week 5 of the Winter Equestrian Festival in Wellington, Florida. The challenging 1.45 meter course featured a vertical oxer double combination, an oxer-vertical-vertical triple combination and an open water. For the jump-off, riders had to make a sharp roll back to the double combination, continue with a long gallop to a tall vertical, and finish over two wide oxers.
This class is the first of 4 rounds in a series of competitions, at the end of which the top four riders win the right to participate in the European Young Riders Tour.
The next class will be held under the lights in the International Arena on Friday, February 24, 2012.
